I know Obama wants to ‘reform’ education but I didn’t know it was going to be by force. Why would the Department of Education, which is not a law enforcement agency, need to purchase 27 Remington Shotguns?
I thought schools were ‘gun-free’ zones?

Without going into all aspects of this topic, let me sum this up.
Criminals, bad guys, crazys, etc. do not follow rules and laws. Making a school a “gun-free” zone does not stop those people from brining a gun to a school. Police cannot instantly teleport to a location. Most people follow rules/laws. So this means a criminal can go to a school with any firearm and go unopposed for whatever length of time it takes for police to arrive, find the criminal and detain him/her. Most modern firarms can deliver well over 1 round per second, so to simplify things, if police take 2 minutes to get there, that means one could shoot over 120 times before being opposed. Now put a shotgun with a trained teacher in every classroom. Responce time has been reduced to under a minute, reducing the time a criminal can hurt people and thus, we can mitigate the death/destruction.
Get armed, get trained, save lives.
I always point to the fact that all banks have the No Weapons Allowed stickers on their doors and windows. This only stops a law abiding citizen, such as myself, who has a concealed weapon permit. I carry concealed everyday, yet I have to put my weapon in trunk when I enter a bank, school, courthouse or federal building. Criminals do not care about the laws.

@Jason:
Are you out of your mind?!?!
I’m an NRA member and big supporter of the 2nd Amendment. But, arming *teachers* with shotguns is crazy talk. If we’re at that point, as a society (American), where our teachers are like Wyatt Earp meets Mr.Rogers we have a much bigger problem. Like, 50 year-old Ms. Pennyham is going to engage in a gun battle, and defend the campus by slinging lead slugs at some crazed teenage wackjob running around with a semi-auto rifle?? Or, Mr. Smith is going to get to the school armory, dust off the 12 gauge, load it up, make his way back to the shooter, engage in a gun battle, and WIN…faster and better than we think law enforcement could do??
