President Barack Obama enjoyed his highest approval rating during his first week in office, with 66 percent of Americans approving of his job performance, according to Gallup.
President George W. Bush’s highest rating came following the terrorists attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with a 90 percent high and months of ratings in the 80s.
At almost the same time Americans were polled on presidential job performance (663 days in office, polling taking place during the week of Nov. 11) Bush had a rating of 66 percent.
The latest approval rating for Obama (651 days in office, polling taking place during the week of Nov. 1-7) show that 45 percent of Americans think the president is doing a good job.
Gallup reported on Tuesday that two years after leaving office Bush was still perceived more negatively than positively, with the former president getting a 53 percent unfavorable rating from Americans compared to a favorable rating of 44 percent – only one percentage less than the latest favorable rating for Obama.
