Another Obama crony telling the weak-minded that those unemployment checks stimulate the economy…
“Even though we had a terrible economic crisis three years ago, throughout our country many people were suffering before the last three years, particularly in the black community,” Jarrett said. “And so we need to make sure that we continue to support that important safety net. It not only is good for the family, but it’s good for the economy. People who receive that unemployment check go out and spend it and help stimulate the economy, so that’s healthy as well.”
We still have an economic crisis and it’s much worse than it was three years ago due to Obama and his policies. Jarrett also leaves out the fact that unemployment is higher, today, in the black community than it was three years ago. As a matter of fact, it is at Depression-era levels. But the ones she is speaking to will vote for Obama based on skin color alone. Nothing but the same ol’ “Blame Bush” bullshit from Obama’s kiss-ass cronies who continue to lie to the weak-minded who can’t see the truth.

I agree 100% with the socialist comrade Jarrett. Those checks do indeed stimulate the economy… beer and malt liquor sales. Crack and marijuana sales and the drug cartels. Expensive chrome rim industry, of course they are made in China, but who cares. And you have to buy french fries for all those single parent’s out of marriage children. You go girl. Keep them checks flowing so we can continue to support those causes!
Well, economically speaking she is right. If a benefit system takes 100 dollars from a wealthy person and transfers it to a poor person, overall spending increases, since the poor person spends that money immediately, creating demand for goods and services and thereby jobs. The wealthy person, by contrast, would just keep most of the money on a bank account, or worse yet, a swiss bank account.
Economically speaking, if you believe her BS, the economy should be fully recovered and unemployment would be below 7.8%. The taking part is what’s scary. The money taken isn’t only from the rich. It comes from those of us who pay federal income taxes (only 53% of us). So sick of the class warfare bs and the uninformed who buy into it. That money isn’t “free.” Those working are paying for these record number of unemployment checks (99 weeks under Obama…use to be 26 weeks before his election.)
Granted, the money often is not from the rich, which is why they should pay higher taxes, so that not work is taxed so much, but wealth. But the logic still holds true with regards to transfers. They are re-fed into the economic (=productive) cycle much faster if in the hands of poor people. A benefits system also has other advantages. For example: If people know they will receive support if things go wrong, they are more entrepreneurial and more inclined to take on risks like taking their money and opening a small business. This in turn creates jobs.
Right you are. Welfare payments should be taxed. As it stands now, the 53% who day pay taxes are taxed multiple times on their money. Taxed if the put into a bank account or CD. Taxed when they take the money out of their accounts, even taxed when they die. People on welfare need to find out what a tax is. That would also put money back into the government, so nobama and his pals could use it to buy more stuff to give away. They should also tax everything they give away, just as real taxpayers are taxed if they win something.
The rich already pay higher taxes (see IRS tax rate chart) and the top 1% pay over 40% of all federal income tax, which pay for all the entitlement and welfare programs. http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2011/09/26/why-the-rich-pay-40-of-taxes/
If these unemployment checks are such great economic stimulants, why hasn’t the economy recovered and why is unemployment still higher? It’s failed Keynesian economic policies. FDR tried the same economic philosophy and it extended the Great Depression by 7 years. http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx
Most people, with common sense, are saving their money and not putting it back into the economy. Also, nobody can start a small business using unemployment benefits.
After all, America wasn’t built on unemployment checks or the desire to take from others based on envy (wealth redistribution).
Sorry, you got me wrong. I did not say that welfare benefits would be spent on starting a business. But say I have a decent little job that pays me enough to get by, I will not take the risk giving that up and using my hard-earned dollars to start a business, since if that goes bad, I might end up without a job and without a dime, faced with starvation. If, however, I know that if that happens I will still receive a base support, that’s a different matter. More people would take on business risks, which is generally a good thing
That same WSJ article also statest that… “when pundits and politicians talk about the rich paying ‘a big chunk,’ they should be clear that it’s because the rich earn ‘an even bigger chunk.’”
Well, in general, when you work harder, you earn more money. By the way, I’d suggest you worry more about the money you make and less about what others earn.
And finally, if I may, I disagree with your statement that the benefits system is based on envy. It is based on Christian values, human civilization, and the decency to support those in need. Should we just let people die in our midst or live in inhuman conditions without access to good education and health? Help, even monkeys care for their own…
