On MSNBC’s “Hardball” Wednesday evening, Chris Matthews discussed the theatrics of the presidential debate with James Lipton, longtime host of “Inside the Actor’s Studio.” Lipton offered some unremarkable observations — he called Mitt Romney “the boss who tells lame jokes and waits for everybody to laugh or else” — but what made the segment remarkable was Matthews’ reaction to a portion of the debate in which Romney in essence silenced President Obama, telling him he would have a chance to speak later.
Matthews played a video clip of the exchange, in which Romney accused Obama of cutting the number of oil and gas permits awarded on federal lands:
ROMNEY: How much did you cut them by?
OBAMA: I’m happy to answer the question.
ROMNEY: All right. And it is — I don’t think anyone really believes that you’re a person who’s going to be pushing for oil and gas and coal. [Gestures.] You’ll get your chance in a moment. I’m still speaking.
OBAMA: Well –
ROMNEY: And the answer is I don’t believe people think that`s the case because –
ROMNEY: — that wasn’t the question.
OBAMA: OK.
ROMNEY: That was a statement.
After the clip ended, Matthews seemed appalled. “I don’t think [Romney] understands the Constitution of the United States,” Matthews said. “He’s the president of the United States. You don’t say, ‘You’ll get your chance.’”
Believes he’s a race expert because he sees black people
MSNBC’s Obama fluffer continues to show his obsession with all things race-related. Matthews believes his can speak out about race due to where his Lilly-white ass lives and because he drives by black people on his way to work.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews might have exaggerated his abilities to hear dog-whistle racism at this week’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Newsbusters’ Jack Coleman noted.
During Tuesday night’s coverage, Matthews made the case that he is well-positioned to judge racial issues because of where he lives, after having repeatedly insinuated that Republican figures are racist.
“I go back to living in D.C. all these years. I’ve lived there 40 years, a black-majority city, and anybody who wants to get up early in Washington and drive down North Capitol and drive past Florida Ave., sees nothing but young, but black people up at 6:30 in the morning going to work,” Matthews said. “That’s where they’re going, to work, and not at big-wage jobs and not to get a welfare check, they’re out working hard all day and not coming home with a fantastic paycheck. So this notion of blacks live on welfare and whites live on work is a brilliant political ploy, but it’s not true, Rachel [Maddow]. And you know it. I know it.”
That’s not exactly true. Matthews doesn’t live in the District of Columbia but instead lives in Chevy Chase, Md., an affluent suburb of Washington, D.C.
On MSNBC’s Hardball today, host Chris Matthews went into a rant defending President Obama as one of the most middle-class people we’ve had as president. Matthews also said he has a “perfect record” and is “clean as a whistle.”
“I think — you know, I think President Obama is one of the most middle-class people we’ve had as president, one of the most regular,” Matthews said on his nightly MSNBC program today.
“He’s a self-made man,” New York Magazine’s John Heilemann chimed in.
“He’s done everything — I said it today, without being a big lib about it, he’s done everything anybody has ever asked African-Americans to do in this country. Perfect family, perfect record, clean as a whistle. All he has done is work for people that need help. He’s never grabbed the money,” Matthews also said.
What in the hell has anyone asked African-Americans to do Chrissy? What type of racist mumble is this? Obama’s grabbed close to $6 trillion in 3.5 years not to mention his perfect record of record deficits, debt, poverty, long-term unemployment and food stamp usage on top of a credit downgrade, Solyndra and Fast & Furious.

MSNBC has an agenda. It’s agenda is to make the GOP look racist. All week, Chrissy Matthewsm and other seldom watched MSNBC hosts, have been claiming the GOP are playing the race card with all the talk about food stamps and welfare reform. Now MSNBC has been busted for refusing to show any minority speakers at the RNC convention.
One of the left’s favorite attacks on the Republican Party is that it is the party of old white people, devoid of diversity and probably racist.
If you were watching MSNBC’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday night, you might believe those assertions, since missing from the coverage was nearly every ethnic minority that spoke during Tuesday’s festivities.
In lieu of airing speeches from former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis, a black American; Mia Love, a black candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah; and Texas senatorial hopeful Ted Cruz, a Latino American, MSNBC opted to show commentary anchored by Rachel Maddow from Rev. Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Chris Hayes and Steve Schmidt.
Throughout this convention, Matthews has accused the Republicans of playing dog-whistle racist politics while on scene in Tampa. It isn’t clear, however, if Matthews will hurl accusations of racism at Davis, Love or Cruz for speeches his network failed to broadcast.

Chris Matthews, on Monday’s Hardball, attacked Newt Gingrich with the same old liberal line about the GOP using racial code words, from Mitt Romney talking about welfare reform to Gingrich calling Barack Obama the “food stamp president.” However, the former Speaker of the House wasn’t having any of it, as he hit back: “Why do you assume food stamp refers to black? What kind of racist thinking do you have? Wait a second! Why aren’t you being a racist because you assume it refers to black?”
MATTHEWS: You can laugh about it, but you don’t think you’ve used it in the past? What’s a food stamp president?
GINGRICH: A food stamp president is a guy whose policies are so destructive, that he creates the longest unemployment since the Great Depression and he puts more people on food stamps, most of them white, than anybody else. Why do you assume food stamp refers to black? What kind of racist thinking do you have? Wait a second! Why aren’t you being a racist because you assume it refers to black?
MATTHEWS: Let me tell you why. Because from the beginning of paying attention to politics, Ronald Reagan would talk about the welfare queen, who was African-American. He’d talk about the young buck waiting in line.
GINGRICH: He didn’t say that.
MATTHEWS: Yes, he did. He talked about the welfare queen out in Chicago.
GINGRICH: Who was, who was African-American?
MATTHEWS: Yeah.
GINGRICH: I don’t believe he ever used the term, “who was African-American.”
MATTHEWS: No he didn’t say, he didn’t have to. He also talked about, let me try this.
GINGRICH: About a welfare queen who suffers?
MATTHEWS: How about the young buck waiting in line for food stamps to buy booze with? This is a history we have here. And this lingo is so clear to every African-American watching right now.
GINGRICH: So we’re not allowed to tell the truth about food stamps?
MATTHEWS: You sit here and chuckle about it as if it’s not game you’re playing.
GINGRICH: Wait a second! We’re not allowed to talk about food stamps because your sensibility tell us that 35 years ago? Give me a break! C’mon! Give me a break!
MATTHEWS: You’ve got that diabolic smile of yours, and I know you think you’re winning here, but everybody out there who’s black or white knows exactly the game that’s being played here.
GINGRICH: No, but here’s the game. You have the worst president in the last…
