This really is the know-nothing presidency. They claim they didn’t know how bad the recession despite their constant harping about it was the worst since the Great Depression and only after their stimulus failed to keep unemployment below 8% and the economy remaining stagnant. Then they claimed they didn’t know about the Fast & Furious gun trafficking scheme despite Obama using executive privilege to hide documents from Congress on the matter. Now they are claiming the administration didn’t know about Petraeus’ affair despite the months long investigation by the FBI. One would think the FBI would notify the president about his choice for Director of the CIA was cheating.
(CNSNews.com) – FBI protocol determined when the president of the United States would be told that his director of the Central Intelligence Agency was engaged in an adulterous affair, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Tuesday.
At the briefing, a reporter asked, “Jay, this investigation has been going on for months. How is it that the White House didn’t have any idea of this until after the day after election, and Congress a few days later?”
Carney said, “Well, I would refer you to the FBI. They have, as I understand it, protocols in place for when they notify the legislative and executive branches of investigations. And it’s simply a fact that the White House was not aware of the situation regarding General Petreaus until Wednesday and the situation regarding General Allen until Friday. So, the FBI is the place to go in terms of an explanation of the protocols they follow. But I understand that is the answer that they will give, that is the protocols that they follow, that govern how they inform the various branches of government of these kinds of investigations.”
