Riley Gunnoe says business is booming at his tool store in St. Albans. He says it’s because of a sign outside.
Gunnoe told me he didn’t know what was going to happen when he put this phrase on it, “If you are for Obama’s policies, please keep your dumba$$ out of this store.”
Gunnoe says he didn’t know what was going to happen when he put the sign up. “I didn’t care. But it really has doubled my business since I put it up so I’m glad I did now!”
Some people in the community say it makes them question whether they would do business with Riley.
Thomas Snyder of Charleston said, “Who knows in the future if I was going to buy tools and my friends referred me to them, but now, why would I want to go there?”
Gunnoe says the sign hasn’t hurt business at all. In fact, he claims business has actually picked up.
He does say he’s received phone calls from as far away as California to complain, but he hasn’t received the same response from people in the Mountain State.
“Nobody from West Virginia has ever come in here to complain. Everybody has been coming in wanting to shake my hand,” said Gunnoe.
He said business had declined significantly since Obama took office. He worries, despite the recent rush of customers, that he’ll have to close up shop in the next couple of years.
“If anyone was stupid enough to believe in Obama’s policies, then I think they’re too dumb to own a tool. They’ll probably get hurt on it,” said Gunnoe.
